This project is aiming at the enhancement of sustainable development of the area, focusing on ecological, social and economic aspects. An integral element of the project is to raise the awareness on the high natural values of the area and the chances involved (e.g. ecotourism) on local, national and international level. Consequently, the project activities focus on environmental education on the one hand and on the development and promotion of ecotourism offers at the other hand. During the whole process transboundary cooperation is of high importance in order to reach the overall goal to contribute to joint long-term conservation and promotion of the unique biodiversity of the transboundary Belasitsa Mountains in Bulgaria, Greece and F.Y.R. Macedonia.
The project is funded by Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) and jointly implemented by EuroNatur, Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation (BBF) – Branch Belasitsa (Bulgaria), the Directorate of the Belasitsa Nature Park (Bulgaria), the Management Authority of Lake Kerkini National Park (Greece), and the Environmental Association Planetum (F.Y.R.
